There was no sign of slowing down after 2NE1’s fiery like debut, even as fate lurks in the future of their disbandment. But until then, 2NE1 left a blazing trail wherever they went! This is after an incredible jump start in their career!
With 2NE1’s insane rise in the music scene, they were soon recognized as one of South Korea’s most popular girl groups by 2010. Staying in the momentum, 2NE1 release a promotional single “Follow Me” for Samsung’s Corby F phone commercial. Fans were caught in the addictive rhythm and lyrics of the song.
Originally there was no music video planned for “Follow Me”. However, the song got so popular, they decided to film one. The music video was released one month later after much anticipation. Blackjacks were absolutely overjoyed to have their voices heard and wish fulfilled!
“Follow Me” set an impressive record of over 2,400,000 digital copies in sales.
I’m sure fans have noticed the ridiculous number of outfit changes from the commercial version of “Follow Me” to the official music video. Fans were once again amazed with the assortment of wacky styling. It is obvious that out-of-the-world concept and unique styling had became part of 2NE1’s signature trait.
Over the summer, 2NE1 travelled to Los Angeles and London to prepare for their US debut. They recorded English songs with Will.i.am, music producer and member of The Black Eyed Peas, filmed music videos, and then aired on 2NE1 TV season 2. All the processes of singing and filming kept them busy for the entire summer! Imagine that!
The girls released their first full length album “To Anybody” in September 2010 and it became buzz-worthy immediately. This album contains a total of 12 tracks including “Can’t Nobody”, “Go Away” and “Clap Your Hand”.
Dara and Bom’s previous solo releases and CL & Minzy’s duet song were also included in the album. Fan’s favorite “Follow Me” was one of the tracks as well! All 3 tracks were scheduled to have music videos released respectively and fans were exhilarated.
The “Go Away” music video aroused fans’ curiosity the most with its intriguing story plot that contains a deeper meaning beneath. The story iss different from the other two music videos. It was filmed at outdoor locations and CL’s chic racer concept adds on to the hot topic. Actor Song Jaerim also acted in the music video as CL’s ex boyfriend!
Among the 3 tracks, “Go Away” peaked to first position on charts upon album release, followed by “Can’t Nobody” and “Clap Your Hands” ranking 2nd and 3rd respectively. The album achieved an all-kill on South Korea charts instantly after release. It also debuted number 7 on the Billboard world album chart. The album sold over 122,845 copies by the end of 2010.
The powerful and catchy titles were promoted together during their comeback stage and all songs won first positions on various music broadcasts. They were also the first ever Kpop artist to win mutizens for 3 different songs in one promotion period. It was a record of 11 music station wins by the end of their promotions.
2NE1 latern continued their promotion with “It Hurts (Slow)” on music broadcast. It was a song that shows the member’s vocal colors well and was well received.
With all the smashing records for 2NE1’s first full length album “To Anyone”, this further proves their blazing popularity not only in South Korea but also internationally. Needless to say, 2NE1 had a blast during the year end award ceremonies yet again. They took home 4 awards at Mnet Asian Music Awards 2010, including 2 daesang prizes, Artist of the Year and Album of the Year.
Another thrilling year with 2NE1 filled with achievements and dreams come true. Many beautiful stories will continue to be written down with adoration from their fans and their own outstanding growth. The best has yet to come, so stay tuned as we progress towards the reason why 2NE1 disbanded in 2017.
